Buying Guide

What to consider when buying a round crib

Make sure you’ve planned the layout of your baby’s nursery in detail in detail. A round crib can really change the feel of the nursery décor. Other products you might be thinking of buying, i.e. glider, chest of drawers etc., should blend in nicely with a round crib.

Use an online room design tool so you can get a really good idea of how things will look in the end. Take measurements of everything and then use a website to get a better idea of the room design.

Types Of Cribs

The market is filled with different cribs that vary in size and functionality. Here are the basic types:

Standard

Standard-size cribs provide a lot of room for your baby to grow into.

Convertible

Convertible cribs are popular with families looking for a long-term solution.

Portable

Portable/folding cribs can be standard sized or smaller, like mini cribs. These cribs offer multiple mattress height settings so that you can lower the mattress height as your baby grows and pulls up to a standing position.

Mini Cribs

Mini cribs have multiple mattress settings that can be adjusted according to your preference.

Here are a few benefits of purchasing a round crib:

The first thing you need to know about round cribs is that they are not just for show. They have many benefits, some of which include: a more compact design, reduced weight from all directions and the ability to roll around.

Mobility

These benefits make it easier for parents and caregivers to move them around their home or take them with them when visiting friends.

Visibility

Round cribs also offer a lot of visibility. You can keep an eye on your child at all times, and they provide better peace of mind when you’re putting them down for a nap or night’s sleep because the sides are lower to the ground than with traditional square models.

Stability

Round cribs have a lower center of gravity and wider base than rectangular ones, so they’re more stable during earthquakes (or any other time they need to be moved).

Safe Design

The risk of injury is decreased because there are no sharp corners or edges that can snag clothing or injure them.

When you think about safety hazards like fires, an open flame would travel around the circumference rather than just up one side. For this reason alone many parents choose round over rectangle when buying new furniture for their child!

Round cribs are great for preventing falls and injuries.

How to choose the best round crib

Safety

Are round cribs safe?  A round crib is just as safe for a baby to sleep in as any other type of crib.  However, round cribs are not recommended for children who can climb out of the top because they lack a traditional railing or other safety features to prevent falls and injuries.

Certifications

Be sure to look for safety certifications. The JPMA and Greenguard Gold certifications are the two most important certifications to look out for. Parents should still take the time to check out the JPMA seal and certify for confidence and peace of mind.

A Greenguard certification certifies a product has been tested for thousands of chemicals and VOCs and helps in providing a safe environment for your baby and family.

Slats and Railing

A crib should have a well-made, solid construction and the slats should be close enough together to prevent injury. Therefore, choose a crib that has no drop side or railings for added safety.

Ideally, you want something with a rounded front rail so your baby can’t bang their head on it while they play. It also helps if its top is curved instead of flat – this way there’s less risk that she’ll push herself over the edge by accident when she sits up.

And beware low rails or openings in the side – these are just asking for trouble!  And make sure your child’s head clears the top railing by at least two inches.

Decor

You also want to make sure it’s compatible with other nursery décor so your little one doesn’t end up living in an all pink room or something like that – they’ll grow out of it quickly enough as it is!

In addition to these features, make sure it is not made from particle board which contains formaldehyde (a harmful chemical). The best materials are wood products, metal, durable plastics, or any other non-toxic material.

Convertible cribs

A convertible crib is excellent because it can be used early on and then converted into a toddler bed when the time comes – saving you money by doing away with having to purchase two separate pieces of furniture.

Cost

Rectangular and square cribs can be more affordable than oval/circular cribs. However, affordable round cribs may be found online and at major retailers. Explore the options and compare the prices of similar cribs to end up with the most flexible, functional, and affordable baby crib.

Ready to choose? Here are a few of our recommendations:

Don’t forget the accessories!

Since it’s recommended that babies don’t have extra sheets, blankets in their crib, we will only recommend a fitted sheet and mattress cover. We know you will dress baby warmly!

Mattress cover

This is a specially designed protective covering for your mattress that will protect it from any spills, accidents, and bed wetting incidents that might happen while you’re little one sleeps in their crib!

Fitted sheets

A fitted sheet goes under the entire mattress with an elasticized edge all around to keep everything snug and tight. You can also use this as just another layer of protection if something happens or has happened to your mattresses during those first months when baby’s sleep time isn’t quite regulated yet – which means they may be awake more often at night than not!

It’s always best to have two sets so one set can stay dry. For round cribs we recommend a set of four sheets.

Wrapping up…

Round cribs are a great option for babies who cannot yet stand up on their own or climb out of the top because they lack a traditional railing or other safety features to prevent falls and injuries.

Choose a crib made with durable materials without formaldehyde so that it’s safe for your baby.  Always look at safety ratings and consider a toddler bed conversion kit.

The best round crib is well-made and has slats close enough together so your child can’t injure themselves when crawling around inside it (especially if you have an infant).

All in all, a round crib may not be for everyone, but if you decide to purchase one, make sure to buy one that is the right size for your child and made of safe materials.
